Just a quick Minute and a Half video to say hey howdy hey and let people know what happens at New Life a bit and what is all going on this week. I hope your summer has gone well and we look forward to seeing you at some point this week.

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say check back for a Welcome Video on Sunday Aug 28th. Hope you are having fun moving in and meeting new folks.

Of course as soon as the students leave, the rain stops. It's warm and sunny here in Lock Haven. And even though most of the students are gone, we are still having New Life on Friday Nights @7pm. If you haven't already done so, and you are college aged here in Lock Haven, feel free to join our Facebook group: Straight Up Trapped in Lock Haven 2011. We would love to invite you to all the fun stuff to be had during the lazy summer months. You can see our calendar of events on the Calendar Page.

And if you haven't already, check out our Summer Reading page and join us as we read through the New Testament this summer.

The end to a fantastic year can only mean one thing, an amazing summer! Enjoy it y'all!

The end of the semester is almost here and we are busy cramming as much into this month as possible. If you are a student at LHU, I would encourage you all to remember to focus not only on Christ at this time, but also your studies. It is easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and the bustle of all the social activities of the last few weeks. Remember, some of the best decisions that you will make before May rolls around are the one's where you say, "No," to some social function or "No," to simply loafing about and instead pick up a book and study. I don't say this to parent you, but as your Christian brother who cares about your witness to the people around you. How does this make a difference? Think about what you are saying to people all around if you go to all these different social events and then pull a terrible grade point average. Not to say that you can't go out and have some fun (we all know that I am the voice of reason, and when the sun is shining, we all need to take advantage of it), but I am saying to make sure you aren't sacrificing being a great student for simply hanging with your buds doing a whole bunch of nothing. Instead, think of where you can cut back in some areas of life and add the studying in.

Here's a couple of suggestions for you to consider,
  1. Facebook- uber time waster
  2. waking up a half an hour earlier to study- yeah we can all do that
  3. do you really need to work out for 2 hours a day- or can 1 hour suffice for a few weeks
  4. if you haven't discovered the joy of watching your favorite shows on the internet whenever it is more convenient for you- now is a great time to learn
  5. what will happen if you actually TURN OFF your phone (not silent or vibrate)- not much... friends won't be insulted and the world will not end if you don't reply to that text. And don't try using your parents as an excuse either. What parent is gonna get mad about it when you tell them you were studying?
  6. Maybe you are one of those folks who attend 5 different Bible studies and spend over 3 hours in quiet time each day- (Hear the Campus Missionary now...) Cut back for a few weeks. Summer is right around the corner and you can jump back into it then. This does NOT say stop all together, just cut back some IF you spend more than 3 hours a week in some form of Bible study
There are plenty of places that we can start tightening our belts time wise, so that studying can happen. Make it a priority and help your witness to others.

Well, Spring Break is over, and with it comes the end of our mission trip and the hectic pace that we had been leading for the past several weeks. Our Mission Trip to Pittsburgh was a great success and everyone on the trip was blessed to help serve around the area. To see more catch the video in the Updates tab (in the left column). We were priviledged to help with kid's Sunday school and canvas a neighborhood for a local church- Faith Bridge Church, prayer walk and evangelize "The Strip" market area, prayer walk and evangelize Pitt University, help clean up our host church- Faith Community Church Lakeside, serve at a homeless shelter- Light of Life, serve at World Vision headquarters (see our Ministry Links page), and do 2 devotions a day reading through the Gospel of John.
There was also this great cultural exchange between the two halves of our group- American and Korean. Everyone has decided to start calling my "Sagikkun" (roughly pronounced: soggy coon) the Korean word for "cheater But that isn't all the Korean we learned, and we were able to enlighten them on some English as well. My favorite... Wet Willy.

We hope to see you soon and look forward to a great end of the semester. Only 8 more weeks!

Ok, so much to talk about, so little time. December rolled through like a freight train in Lock Haven at 2am~ fast and horns blazing. We ended the semester on a good note and had a wonderful time at various Christmas time functions. Capped off with our traditional "White Elephant Gift Crazy Sweater Ginger Bread House Building Cookie Decorating" Christmas Party. I guess I should note on a more spiritual level we did also participate in Operation Christmas Child and sponsored something like 24 shoeboxes full of goodies for impoverished children all over the globe. (check the link for more details)
From there 13 of us met back together for our trip down to Passion 2011 in Atlanta, GA! It wasn't just a time of great road trip humor... It was an amazing time of speakers and worship. Students got to hear from Louie Giglio, Francis Chan, Beth Moore, Andy Stanley, John Piper and more. There was some great depth and spiritual growth that took place there in Atlanta and I am uber excited to see what carries over into the Spring semester. Look for the video that I will be putting together to come out sometime in the next week. And thank you to all our supporters who helped us to get there.
We look forward to what the Lord will do in the lives of the students as they continue to grow and mature in their walk with Him.

Sitting in the'Bucks
Halloween has just passed and Thanksgiving is coming around the corner. At New Life we have been busy cleaning up in the community, taking on the high ropes course here on campus, Bible studying, worshiping, gave blood, took part in local concerts and plays, had a terrific time during InCounter (our winter retreat) and did all the things we usually do... like hanging out at the Starbucks.
I had the wonderful opportunity to speak to our sister group in West Chester, PA - CrossSeekers. What a great bunch of students! If you live in the area, you should track them down and check them out.
With just a few weeks left of this semester, we are plugging away at doing our best to squeeze in a few more activities. The one we are looking forward to the most is our big New Life meeting on the 19th as we all try to squeeze into the room at the same time and then go shopping for Operation Christmas Child!
